Reaching COD for 20MW/40MWh Utility-Scale BESS Project

Projects

We are excited to announce that our customer’s 20MW/40MWh utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) project, located in southern California, has successfully reached its commercial operation date (COD) in June 2025. EPC Energy supported this project from start to finish, including system procurement and technical engineering to installation, commissioning, and 10 years of O&M services. Our scope also covered networking hardware, energy management system software configuration, fire suppression system commissioning, and comprehensive system training to ensure smooth and safe execution throughout the project. With extended equipment warranties, capacity maintenance guarantees, and round-trip efficiency assurances, the system is built for long-term reliability and performance.

This utility-scale system is capable of powering up to 4,000 homes, helping to promote grid stability and responsiveness. While the execution of such a large project included challenges, such as network connectivity issues and low battery cell voltages, our team swiftly resolved them without affecting the project timeline. Additionally, we prioritized safe, deliberate training during battery loading to ensure all personnel were confident and efficient in their roles. The completion of this project further reinforces our ability to provide end-to-end solutions for complex, utility-scale energy systems.
